Managing Multiple WordPress Websites

If you are managing multiple WordPress websites, this article is for you. Managing updates, plugin updates, and theme updates on one site is easy enough, but multiply that by 20 or 30, and it gets to be a real headache.

We manage 40+ WordPress sites, and over the years I have tried several apps to make this easier. I would happily and confidently recommend the following app, as I have used it, and count on it each and every day.

The MainWP WordPress Management plugin is a free, self-hosted and open source solution for managing multiple WordPress sites. This is a self-hosted solution, meaning you setup a WordPress installation, install MainWP, and then manage your WordPress sites from there. You can keep easily everything up-to-date, runĀ backups, and setup automate updates all in one place. There are also some nice little features included to help you keep your sites safe. We’ve been using this for about a year on one of our servers, and we just love it!

  1. I heard today that ManageWP, one of my original app recomendations (ManageWP), was purchased by GoDaddy. I cannot in good conscience recommend any service owned by GoDaddy. They have the worst service and ethics in the industry, and I can’t imagine anyway that ManageWP will be able to stay above it, just as Media Temple is unable to. Therefore, this post has been revised to remove ManageWP. So, for now… give MainWP a try.
