Dayton Hires Colorado Firm to Build Website… REALLY?

I just read an article in the Dayton Daily News titled “Dayton chooses Colorado firm to create a new website.” To sum it up, Looks like Atlas Advertising of Denver was chosen out of 15 bids… only five of which were local. Now this is a website for the office of economic development to help promote the city to businesses.

Hey City of Dayton… What are you saying to the many hard-working web developers in and around your fine city?

You really couldn’t find a local Dayton firm to do this? Your actions speak louder than words… hiring an out of town firm to promote jobs and economic development in Dayton, when you could actually be adding jobs by hiring a local Dayton company. What does this say to new businesses looking to move to our area? Good luck, my friends, you are on your own.

Now. I’ll be honest Forward Media did not bid on this job. It’s not the type of job we’re good at. But I can think of several highly qualified companies in town that could easily and smoothly handle this project with ease. Not to mention that they would build a future-proof website built for mobile, desktop, and everything in between using cutting edge technology. And if the city didn’t think that one firm could complete the whole job, I know that most firms would be happy to work together to bring their best to the table.

Don’t get me wrong here. I love the Dayton area. I’ve lived here all my life, and I’ve spent most of my hard earned dollars here. But maybe these kind of actions are why Dayton’s population loss in the last decade ranked fifth in the country, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

Hey Dayton…you might want to re-think this one.
